Simplicity 8511 │View A Dress

This is another one of those Simplicity patterns that had a display number on my pattern envelope. I'm glad I now know about those ☺; I was able to get the 'real' pattern number from the tissue. It has four different sleeve styles - all of which are really beautiful. I decided to try view A first, but I really want to make view B as well. The pattern has a neck band; I didn't like the way it looked on my dress so I took it off, which left me with a more open neckline. I love it with the more open neckline especially with the warm weather that we have right now. It's the only change I made to the pattern.
The sleeves are my favorite part of the dress. Big sleeves seem to be in fashion lately. The ruffles were fun to make, but they used up a lot of fabric. I used a navy ponte knit from JoAnn. It's fairly warm so the dress will work well during cooler Fall temperatures, too.
(I still need to add a hook at the top of the zipper ☺)
On the back there are some wrinkles because of more lines and this fabric just seemed to work better with less lines. The raglan sleeves, back darts, center back seam and hem were just too much detail on the back for this fabric. Next time I'll choose a different type of fabric. However, I really loved its drape - it worked great for the ruffles.
Have a wonderful week! Happy sewing!!

  1. That's a very lovely dress and being a knit is going to be very easy and comfortable to wear and move in. The sleeves are wonderful. And your sewing has certainly come on in leaps and bounds since you started blogging :)

    1. Thank you, Sarah. I also feel that I've grown as a seamstress in the last few years. Being part of the online sewing community has taught and challenged me so much.

  5. This is a lovely dress! I would not have paid attention to any lines if you had not mentioned it… It does not take away from the beauty of this dress!
