Simplicity 1887 Pants │View A

I made myself a pair of pants! I'm very pleased with how these turned out, given that they're my first self-made pair. This pattern has been around for quite some time but I only discovered it at a recent pattern sale at JoAnn. I read a couple of reviews on the pattern prior to making it and many people complained about the sizing being too big. Wow, they were not exaggerating at all! I'm a size 10 but I cut size 8 and it was still too big. I took out about 3 inches from each pant side. I don't like my clothes too tight so I still have a bit of room for any weight gain. Other than being too big, it really is a great pattern and I plan to make more versions. My wardrobe needs a lot of pants right now (other than jeans) and this pattern can be a great TNT for a quick sew. Brittany has a great video tutorial on view D of the pattern, which is a skirt. But it's very useful even if you're making the pants because the process is the same for the band and the pockets. Thanks Brittany!
I'm wearing the pants here with a RTW top and a RTW jacket that I was given my sister (#ThanksConnie!). The pants band has elastic on the sides, which makes the pants very comfortable. The pockets are really large and so easy to insert. Below are close-ups of the top part of the pants; it's hard to tell from the above pics but they're also pleated:
There's a little bit of gaping at the back, which I get even with RTW high-waisted pants since my waist is fairly small. But it's not quite visible when I'm wearing them.
I also bought another pants pattern that I plan on making next. Happy sewing everyone!

    1. Thank you, Lisa. The fabric is stretch twill from JoAnn. Here's the link to the description on their website:

  5. You should be very proud of yourself, your pants look great and are a great fit too. As many pairs of pants that I have made, I'm still suffering from fit ISSUES. I do plan on conquering those rascal though.

    1. Yeah, it seems that getting the right fit is challenging even for seasoned seamstresses like yourself. That's really comforting to know. Thanks, Faye.

  9. Nice, very nice! You did a beautiful job on your first pair of pants. I like the style and your fabric choice. They are well made. Pants are a challenge for me too because I am very tall. Right now I'm making a pair of jeans. So far it's going well, but it is challenging for me. Can't wait to see your future pants projects. Great job!

    1. Thank you, Patricia. I'd love to see your jeans. I still have a long way to go before I can even attempt to make jeans. It seems that many people have challenges getting the right fit when it comes to pants.
