Happy New Year!

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great start to 2018. Over here we've had colder than usual temperatures for this time of the year. I hear things are much worse in the east coast. I'm quite excited about the new year and I'm hoping to accomplish much more this year in terms of sewing. I completed my Master's in Business Administration last December, so my schedule has certainly freed up quite a bit. I plan to use the extra time towards building my wardrobe. I'll mostly be focused on basics for both cold and warm weather. I still haven't established a proper sewing plan and you guys have really encouraged me with how thoughtfully you plan out your sewing. So within the next few weeks I'm going to take the time to think about what exactly I want to make, write it down and develop a plan for getting it done. I think that'll help to keep me in track.

Currently I'm working on McCalls 7085. It's a simple pattern and very popular in the blogosphere. Another one of my co-workers went home to China in November and brought me winter fabric. A different co-worker brought me summer fabric when she went home back in 2016. I still haven't used up that last stash and now I have more fabric from China. It's amazing how much cheaper they get it over there. Unlike the way we buy it here, over there you can get fabric for as cheap as your negotiation skills will allow you. The one that I'm using for M7085 is a red tweed/boucle. My only concern is that the pattern details don't show very well on the outside of the fabric, so I'm hoping that the dress will still turn out great. Below is a picture of the dress front on the inside:

The dress will be fully lined. I found a perfect match for the lining at Walmart. Anyway, in other sewing news - Elle magazine announced in December that Project Runway is expanding to South Africa. The show will feature 12 local designers competing for the top spot. I hope to catch the episodes on YouTube. I wonder if other countries will be included in the future.

Until next time - happy sewing ☺☺!

  4. Happy New Year and congrats on completing your studies. Sometimes sewing has to be put aside in order to do something as important as this. Good luck with this years sewing plans.
