Simplicity 6209 Dress - View B

Front view of the dress.

I cut this pattern to size 8, and it turned out a bit too tight. Next time I'll either go for size 10, or be really stingy on the seams.

Pattern cover.

Overall, I really liked this pattern and I'll be making another dress soon. The instructions were fairly easy to follow.

  2. Thanks Dorothy. I'd have preferred a more loose fit, like the lady on the pattern cover. I'll take it as a learning experience.

  4. I have not sewn in years. Does this pattern hold true to the size on the back of the envelop? I usually buy a size 8 off the rack at the department stores. The pattern says a size 8 is 31 1/2 bust, 24 waist, and 33 1/2 hip? If so, I will probably have to move up a size. Your thoughts?

    1. I buy a size 1 at the department store, but per the measurements on this pattern, I went with size 8. You'll have to take your measurements and see which size on the pattern they correspond with. The pattern has a 4 inch ease built into the measurements, so if you cut the right size you'll be fine. Good luck. It's a bit intimidating at first, but the most important thing is to take good measurements of your body so that you get a garment with a perfect fit.
